I would not say I did much today, and mostly because I was looking through our docs, and could not extract any meaning out of them. They were written about 7 years ago, mostly in future tense, and they describe some plans that were abandoned probably five years ago. Anyway, by the end of the day I found a collection of videos; it's too late to watch them now (switching my headset is a pain, so... tomorrow).
Victor was giving another "knowledge sharing session", mostly about how to build and deploy. I reminded that I have it all documented, and the noobs are wholeheartedly welcome to update the doc as soon as they find something missing or wrong. (So far Wilmar did not bother to do it, though.)
Then Jacob scheduled a 1-1 regarding how do we document what we do. Right. No picture, who knows where the information is coming from and where it goes. No big picture. Maybe Jacob and Karen know. And Victor does, but Victor leaves in February. So, I got a feeling it must be my responsibility to keep and maintain the big picture, kick out unmanageable stuff like Nix (unless Wilmar bothers to maintain it), and keep things simple and safe. Because if something crashes, we are like Twitter now. Like Salesforce. Like all those MBAs left without developers.
At 2pm there was an all-hands, where there were like a couple hundred participants, everybody was excited, everybody was looking forward to a big progress, but I don't know who is going to work on all this? That's why Victor left: his negotiations with the management did not work out. How do I know? He told me.
So, interesting, what next. I'd say, we have to divide the work. Karen would not, Chinese people, I never saw a Chinese Engineer willing to divide the work. Different mentality, nothing wrong with it, just a different mentality. And of course everybody can ask me a reasonable question: who the fuck are you? And my answer is: nobody. Just curious. Just someone looking for the big picture.
