Today the time difference with EST is not 6 but 5 hours. I was not aware until like 15:45, in Intermarché, when my phone told me.
Anyway, as I'm on PD, I spent the morning investigating one pager report (not enough disk space in one node where postgres is running).
Not a big deal, but I had to ssh into that machine, and how? First, the docs say I had to decrypt the password file that I had successfully received from aws. To decrypt, have to call amp-kms. Wtf is this? It's in nix. What? I don't have nix... btw, how come? I did have it before, and I could run nix-shell, etc. Not anymore. That was my comp upgrade, I guess. So, should I install nix? I tried. But my os is younger than that nix, and nix does not get installed.
Eventually... very eventually, like after a couple of ours experimenting and even asking (whom should I ask, everybody's sleeping), I figured that I just have to call aws kms - after reading the code for that amp-kms that I found in one repo. Sounds familiar. Do we have aws kms anywhere? Sure we do. I wrote that script for encryption/decryption.

So, step 1 done, I decrypt the password. Now what? I'm still not allowed to ssh. In the docs there's a hint that if you can't, try to get this config file from... from where? They don't say.

So I just asked on slack, and started doing other things. Like that playpal, etc. Strangely, nothing compiles when I rolled back some bad changes. Bad because I counted on our Jenkins to deploy what it builds to jfrog and make the library available. It's there, but not available.

See, I'm a programmer, not a devops. I don't even believe in their security game. Imitation game - you know how fake this movie is. Same with the rest of security. When an app on your phone sends an sms to your phone and asks you to type in the code from that sms.

Oh, whatever. Eventually it turned out Davis had already fixed the disk problem, and I was too lazy.

What else did I do. Did some docs. Even deployed them by the end of the day. Tried to get an approval for my library build, but Davis (again) suggested I just rename the repo to keep the naming system. Kicked out that stupid PR of mine.

Also, one nube, Samin, I wrote in a review of his code that having 9 parameters of a case class, where all these parameters are of the same type is not a good idea - and he gave some strange excuses why it should be like this - do I actually seriously fucking care. I approved it, but wrote to him that (while actually his code is pretty good), this piece is brittle and may cause future problems. We will see, time permitting.

What else?

Oh, "standup". My standup started when we walked out of the store (Intermarché). I just walked along the streets, holding my phone at my ear, and participated in the meeting. Pretty neat, but you need much more attention than in usual meetings.

Whatever.
