semiotics and OOP?! notes of an amateur
Feb. 14th, 2005 10:33 pmReading Daniel Chandler's "Semiotics for Beginners", I could not get rid of an impression that semiotics is basically discovering obvious things. Starting with F. de Saussure's works in the history of linguistics, the semioticians do not go deep into comparative or historical linguistics developed by de Saussure, nor into Chomsky's structural linguistics, nor do they mention Michael Arbib's studies of brain functions and the way a nerve system processes signals. No; instead we are presented with what can be qualified as a pop science - lots of new words, not many new thoughts, and definitely no deep insights or elaborations.( Read more... )Wow.
