assholes around us

What I think... I think it's okay. There are lots of pretty meaningful assholes; they write great music, they write great novels, they prove great theorems.

My questions is this: how come the people around are so gullible that they allow assholes to tell them what to do? I mean, how come regular people (some of them are pretty talented and creative... if not for the assholes that suppress their creativity) just follow sheepishly, instead of relying on their own judgement? I would not blame assholes for that. Everybody is responsible for him- or herself.
