(imho, mormonism is porn)
So, at our nextdoor.com community chat we are having this funny discussion

I'll be attending a presentation given at one of our church buildings by this group: Fight The New Drug, which is a non-profit group (not associated with our church) concerned with the wave of pornography and addiction to pornography. (This group has been on ABC's Nightline Program). This presentation will be geared toward parents concerned with this issue (aren't we all?). If you're interested in the group, check them out at www.fightthenewdrug.org. If you're interested in attending the presentation, it is this Saturday evening at 7:00 p.m. at the LDS church at 1790 E. Dunne Avenue in Morgan Hill. If you'd like to carpool, let me know.

Sex is not exactly new in the lives of animals, including humans. Besides, the impact of pornography on the society is multifaceted; I think there's no porn allowed in Iran, Afghanistan or Saudi Arabia or North Korea; does it make their lives better or something? On the other hand, pursuit of happiness may probably involve the right to freely enjoy porn (as well as the 1st amendment, fyi).
Sorry, I did not mean to interfere with your church business; it was just a comment. I also could quote Marx who said that religion is an opium for the people. :) But we are not going to fight this old drug here, right? Let people enjoy it if they like.

Yeah, porn is no big deal. Only users say stuff like that. It just dehumanizes women and children. No big deal if a guy takes three young girls off the streets and keeps them for 10 years as prisoners, either. It is all "none of our business".

If the guy watched porn..maybe he would have had an outlet...instead of kidnapping and keeping these girls for 10 years. Though I haven't seen any reports out that said the guy is addicted to porn or anything, so I'm not sure how that relates.
I'd have to agree with William and Vlad...there are far more important social issues, and if parents don't want their kids to watch porn, they should police that at home themselves.
And if you DO check out porn, you'll realize there are a ton that demoralize men as well. =)

Mary, I hope you are not implying that kidnapping and sex slavery can be compared to watching porn? I'd rather call this assumption dehumanizing. Those were three real girls from real world suffering for a decade in slavery. As opposed to a show or to something that people just enjoy doing. Please, be careful, there is a big difference. Maybe it does not look so on a tv screen, but we have to be more realistic when we turn off the tv.

My apologies. My original post was meant as a neighborly invitation. If you're not interested, you need not respond.
