My work starts at 9AM. The first meeting was "welcome Juan", but there was only Jeremey: Brad was in traffic, getting his kid to school. So I chatted with Brad later, and he had already enough talks with Jeremey.

Next I started studying their docs. So far everything is pretty good, but there's a funny "Scala style" doc: it's about 5 years old, and it advertises ScalaZ and free monads. As to monads, free monads, and Kleisli, the doc is full of all kinds of nonsense, in the style of ubiquitous "Barbara Liskov principle" (the principle is simple: write good code, don't write bad code).

At 11 we had another meeting, the topic being "lunch in honor of Juan". A lot of people came over but Jeremey wasn't there. The company's rules of meetings says that every meeting has to have a moderator and an agenda. As a result, it was me who was pinging the participants, asking questions.

Gradually the people get warmed, and started discussion a variety of issues: Carolinas (lots of Southerners here), California, driving (I got a feeling that in the South people don't drive slower than 85 mph), and the assholes that drive at 90. Then we switch to the question what kind of car I drive. I drive a RAV4 and a Prius; I told them that I crossed the USA vertically and horizontally, more than twice. Someone posted a picture of a Prius with horns: really, bull horns attached to the bumper.  Here in South Carolina one doesn't have to hand the license on the front bumper, but horns are ok.

Se talked this way until noon. At noon there was supposed to be another meeting, a Book Club, they got to the second chapter of a book on AI - but strangely, nobody showed up.

After lunch (and after adding water to the pool), I went to the next meeting, with Jeremey. Told him what I'm reading now, and that I got a github access. By the way, I added some ideas to Jira yesterday... rather humbly.

Then I had a break, so I spent some time cutting wood etc. After that, I went back to work, read the docs, installed all that good stuff: brew, sdkman, firacode, IntelliJ CE, all that. Which Java and which Scala to install, I'll have to check their docs. Sdkman can install anything.

And then I went home.
