I'm paid per hours, I have lots of time, and I'm curious - so I worked today. 

And yes, I investigated, wtf is going on, and where is it that the record is being updated.

Gradually tweaking the test to make it really test the code.

By the end of the day I found a comment: // update the fields of Consumer record

Basically meaning that a) the code just does not exist; b) the tests carefully bypass checking that the fields are updated.

Probably they fired the guy while he was working on the code.

Anyway, I'll have to talk to the management, what next. The cause is found, but implementing all this is a different story.
