Смешной ещё вариант, когда самцов до хрена, а самка одна. Вот на кого она глаз положит, тот и станет главный самец в коллективе. А самка при этом как бы вообще ни при чем. Просто на кого она глядит, тот и альфа.
I disagree - it is just the opposite. And usually no violence is needed - alpha is the male who could outawe or intimidate others. Violence only becomes necessary two males are close enough in their ranking so there is no way for them to measure up against each other short of an actual fight.
