I do not consider myself versed enough in this subject to form an expert opinion. However, Joseph Greenberg is considered to be one of the great linguists of the last century, the one who classified African and Amerindian languages - most of his critics plainly do not measure up to him.
Besides, Nostratic/Euroasiatic theories have an aesthetic appeal, which means they are more likely to be true.
