Приехали; население жж начинает обсуждать вопрос ценности жизней других людей. О ценности собственной жизни не задумываются, это выходит за пределы их дискурса.

Тьфу.

So if in wiktionary case person plays the role of an object then why software developer cannot play a role of a resource at work?

This is a different story. Yes. 'plays the role' is different from 'is'. It's more like 'has'.

Let me clarify:
do you agree that software developer plays "resource" role (among other roles)?

I will definitely agree with this.

1) So if software developer plays "resource" role - can the consumers of the output, produced by software developer think about software developers as a "person who plays a resource for my needs"?

2) If consumers abbreviate that thought down to "resource for my needs" - is such abbreviation too offensive for your taste?

"person who plays a resource for my needs" - man, are you a Java programmer or something? That's way beyond my ability to handle crappy names.

It was you who suggested using "plays the role [of a resource]" instead of much simpler "is a resource".

Step 1: Get offended of being called "a resource".
Step 2: Suggest using "plays a role of a resource".
Step 3: Complain that "plays a role of a resource" is a crappy name.

Oh come on. Not exactly so. But are you really interested in continuing this discussion?

The discussion does not go well, but the topic itself is interesting: why you do not like when managers call software developers "resources"?

I want to be a good resource for my customers.
